Peppy, youthful tunes that fall easy on the ears

Music Review: Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania

Composers: Sachin-Jigar and Sharib-Toshi

Label: Sony Music

It is expected that a film of Karan Johar have melodious music and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is no exception. The songs are mostly numbers game and youth have taken to it, especially to Saturday Sunday. The song is a recreation of the popular series of Indeep Bakshi and Badshah, which was released two years ago. The same singers have sung the song and video with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt has already become a hit.

The same is true of Samjhawan. This is a song by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, composed by Pakistani singer and composer Ahmed Jawad, who appeared in Punjabi Virsa movie starring Arya Babbar 2010. Sharib-Toshi have not much changed the melody. Instead of Rahat and Farah Anwar, singers here are Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal. Their melodious voices to get a hatke twist. The song is sure to get a million downloads in the days ahead.

Emotional Tonto is the third and final song composed by Sharib-Toshi and sung by Toshi himself, the song features EDM strains and faithfully recreates gender specifications, drilling with some Punjabi tadka too.

Now we come to Sachin-Jigar numbers. Daingad Daingad is your typical Punjabi wedding song with sexual innuendo aplenty. Sung by various artists like Divya Kumar, Akriti Kakkar, Pratibha, Deepali, Niharika and veteran Udit Narayan, whose presence elevates levels. The orchestration fast paced and quirky lyrics fit perfectly with the mood of the song and make it an interesting mix.

Lucky me your luck is a pure dance number sung by Benny Dayal competently and Anushka Manchanda with rap by Varun Dhawan, who does a commendable job for a non-singer. The energy issue feels a bit like Saturday Saturday in the middle. Coincidence or creative inspiration – you decide.

D itself feels like Balam pichkari dance in the beginning. Sachin-Jigar were Pritam (composed for Yeh Hai Balam pichkari Jawaani Deewani), is associated with a time and the influence shows. Vishal Dadlani, Anushka Manchanda Shalmali Kholgade and have sung with great verve and josh to make you forget the similarities and tap your feet along with it.

All-in-all, the OST hits home with lively numbers. It would have been better if all the songs were original, but do not complain all the time as they work for the film.
