Lekar Hum Dil Deewana is a road movie and marks the debut of one of the grandchildren of Raj Kapoor – Armaan Jain. Raj Kapoor’s films were known for their music and one is glad to know that the son of his daughter has started on the right note. The film also marks the directorial debut of brother Arif Ali Imtiaz Ali. AR Rahman is on great terms with Imtiaz so it’s a no brainer how the teacher came on board. As Imtiaz, Rahman Arif has also handsfree and the result is a fresh, frothy music to find an instant connect with the youth. Amitabh Bhattacharya Hatke Lyrics add pep to the OST.

The album opens with the disco song Khalifa. The song feels like an introductory piece for Armaan. Rahman has incorporated rap, hip hop and techno beats in the song, infusing a feeling EDM. Sung by Rahman as the lead vocalist and accompanied by Shweta Pandit, Suzanne D’Mello, Hriday Gattani and Mahesh Vinayakram, quirky appeal of the song makes the snooze button again and again pressed.

Nakash Aziz, Hriday Gattani Jonita Gandhi and combine to create magic in Maloom. This slow love ballad will make you hum the melody. Percussion stands and Rahman again demonstrates why it is so good at capturing the rhythm and melody.

Pakistani singer Shiraz Uppal makes an appearance in Fairy Wing. Rahman weaves mellifluous voice of Shiraz with great guitar work. It’s a nice surprise to hear gatam therebetween and then takes over percussion. The general feeling is like being driven by a musical wave.

Canadian singer Raghav and Tanvi Shah Mawaali glow in qawwali, with the orchestration of Africa. Purists can also say that it is not qawwali, but what’s in a name if the end product is pleasing to the ears. One finds weak strains of RD Burman AAO Gale Lagao na na (Mere Jeevan Saathi – 1972) also in the song.

Beqasoor is mellowest lot harder and also composition. This layered piece sung by Shweta Pandit Nakash Aziz and features the voices loop on the other, creating an eerie effect. Simply superb!

Teen sensation Hriday Gattani ago Your Bright yours. The pop orchestration with the Hinglish lyrics combine to make a love song for the current generation. The guitar riffs add to its structure.

Rahman maintains a safe ear to the ground and knows what today’s youth are listening. He has given you the best of both worlds, splashing an OST Hindi film with strains of world music and EDM. Arif Ali Armaan Jain and could not have asked for a more perfect start …
